AR-03 | Mid Semester Exam (Engineering Center)

For the mid semester exam, we were given an empty space to fill with our ideas, which is the Engineering Center lobby in Faculty of Engineering, University of Indonesia. We have to be able to communicate our ideas of what we are going to do with the empty space through our perspective drawings. I decided to change the functions to be a student lounge.

AX-02 | Sketch: Indoor Complex Objects (Chairs)

Next, we started to sketch a more architectural perspective drawings trough chairs. In this assignment, we are using the two-point perspective to draw the chairs. To do this, we have to draw the chair from the front sideways. The objective of this exercise is still the same as before, we have to show the object's depth, texture, and shadows with a good rendering. We have to be careful and pay attention to the chair's proportion when drawing the lines to its vanishing point. There are 5 chairs for us to sketch.

AX-01 | Sketch: Indoor Object (Fruits, Vegetables, & Styrofoam)

In this assignment, I made sketches of fruits and vegetables; bell pepper, avocado, kiwi, ginger, and cabbage. And also a styrofoam object. I learned about how to draw an image that has depth, texture, and shadows 3 dimensionally. This is like the introduction exercise for perspective drawings which we will do later after this assignment. The rendering process is very important to show the object's depth and texture. Shadows composition is also important, we have to be careful so the object does not look like its floating. We have to redo our drawings until we get an "OK" from our facilitators. *huff* hehe :p

EX-03, EX-04, EX-05 | Free Hand: Lines

Lines are manmade creations that provide information about changes in form, depth, material, or brightness. It is a continuous mark on a surface that is defined mostly by its length relative to its own width or thickness. One technique that is extremely helpful in improving sketching is the mastering of the straight line.

In this assignment, I learned to make freehand lines;
EX-03: horizontal, vertical, and diagonal lines
EX-04: cross lines in horizontal-vertical and diagonal lines
EX-05: circle lines and curve lines
No drawing aid like rulers are allowed to help us created the lines. This is a full freehand drawing. I have come to understand my own natural hand pressure. This affects the marks made on the paper by graphite. Line drawing exercises helps me to achieve straight line accuracy. You will need to move your entire arm while making long straight lines for stability. We have to keep the lines straight and parallel.
